Sporting Khalsa named Talking WoSo FAWNL Division One Team of the Month for October.

Sporting Khalsa currently sit fifth after an impressive month which saw Kelly Williams’ side go unbeaten in both league and cup competitions.

Khalsa began the month in an unenviable eleventh place, two points adrift from safety in the relegation zone, with a record of one win, two draws, and three losses from their six league fixtures. It had been a difficult start to the season for Williams’ side in Division One Midlands.

Since then, however, the Midlands outfit enjoyed a stellar month, going unbeaten in five outings to progress in two cup competitions and move from eleventh to fifth place. The most improved league standing of any team in the Women’s National League during October.

After starting the month with a 2-2 away draw against a strong Long Eaton side, Khalsa followed that up with four wins on the bounce, starting with a 5-2 victory over Peterborough United in the FAWNL Plate. Three more wins followed in as many weeks against Bedworth United, Thrapston Town, and Burton Albion to round off the month.

With the relegation trapdoor wider than ever, a lot of clubs are going to be disappointed come May. That’s inevitable. Which is why it was an important month for Khalsa. Not only did a team that had previously only won once before October manage to continue their unbeaten run, they also managed to turn a two-point deficit into a five-point cushion from the relegation zone, while also progressing in the FA Cup and FAWNL Plate competitions.

Impressive.
