Durham Cestria welcome Dan O’Hearn’s Leeds United to The Graham Sports Centre this Sunday on the inaugural Women’s Football Weekend.
Durham Cestria are enjoying a good campaign since gaining promotion from the NERWFL Premier Division, currently sitting 4th in the table, five points behind visitors Leeds but with a game in hand.
In their first league outing in over five weeks, the hosts had won four on the bounce across all competitions before losing to Chester le Street in the Women’s FA Cup last time out and will be looking to quickly get back to winning ways this weekend.
Leeds currently sit third in the league and will be looking to extend their winning run to four games after beating Bradford in the FAWNL Plate before seeing off Stockport in the league, and most recently, beating Bradford once again to complete the league and cup double over their local rivals in recent weeks.
However, while Leeds go into Sunday with a five-point advantage over the hosts, Durham have matched the Yorkshire side’s form over the last 5 league matches, both teams taking ten points from a possible 15.
Statistically, it has the makings of a closely fought contest with Leeds managing the only clean sheet in last five games, though Durham has kept opposition defences at bay more throughout the entire season – four times compared to the visitors’ three.
At the other end of the pitch, it’s a similar story, with Durham scoring just once more in the FAWNL Division One North this season.
Sunday’s game will be a quick turnaround for the Whites – who will be on the road for the second time in four days – and with little to separate the sides, could fatigue be an important factor in determining the outcome this Women’s Football Weekend?
