Barnsley Women extended their unbeaten run for the season after running out 5-1 victors over Bradford City Women in the 2nd Qualifying Round of The Women’s FA Cup.

The two sides have already met once in the league with the Reds putting five past Bradford, without reply, away from home back in September, and it was a similar story this time.

After a cagey opening 15 minutes, Kath Smith broke the deadlock with a beautifully hit effort from 25 yards, that nestled in the bottom corner.

One quickly became two as, less than 10 minutes later, Lissa Woodhouse slotted the ball through, in the clear, to Amy Woodruff who buried past the keeper after beating the offside trap.

The Reds shifted up a gear, and with half time approaching, scored another two goals in two minutes. Good work from Sophie Bell down the right allowed her to fizz a crosss across the face of goal, and Amy Woodruff was on hand to turn it goal-bound for her second of the afternoon.

Lissa Woodhouse made it four when she got in between the Bradford centre halves and looped the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper.

Early pressure from Barnsley in the second half was counteracted from Bradford. Zoe Roberts scored from a free kick in a dangerous area.

However the Reds put the game to bed not long after. A recycled Lindsey Tugby free kick was headed home by Sophie Bell from close range.

Reds’ Assistant Manager, Andy Glossop, said: “Really good result. To win 5-1 in the Cup is always something we’ll take. We didn’t start the game as quickly as we wanted, but we grew into the game and to take four goals into half time was fantastic.”
